Founded in 1884, William Adams has grown from a Melbourne based trading business into one of Australia’s most respected equipment dealers. Our history is shaped by innovation, resilience, and a strong commitment to our customers. Since 1926, we have proudly partnered with Caterpillar, delivering solutions across construction, mining, quarrying, energy, marine, and infrastructure. Today, we are the authorised Cat dealer for Victoria and Tasmania, providing industry leading equipment and product expertise.

Once you submit your application online, our team will review it, along with all other applications. If your skills and experience match the requirements of the position, we will contact you for a phone screen and potentially invite you to attend an interview.
If you proceed from there, we will then conduct pre-employment checks which could include; a police clearance and working rights check, online reference checking, a pre-employment medical including a drug and alcohol test, and, in some instances, skills or psychometric testing.
If you are the successful candidate for the position, you will receive a formal offer of employment.
Where your role requires a uniform, for example in a trade position or a customer facing position, you will be supplied with a uniform at William Adams expense.
All employees that spend time in our workshop or field environments are also supplied with suitable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when required.
Yes, all team members who are employed at William Adams must have the right to work in Australia. We will request documentation from you to demonstrate your right to work in Australia during the recruitment process.
This may include:
- Australian or foreign passport or
- Australian birth certificate and photo ID or
- Australian citizenship certificate and photo ID
If you are a visa holder, we will require a copy of your visa, as well as your passport, and we will conduct a VEVO (Visa Entitlement Verification online) check.
No, we welcome applications from mature aged applicants. Our current apprentices are from a diverse range of ages and backgrounds.
You must be a permanent Australian resident or hold a relevant permanent visa at the time you apply for our Apprenticeship Program. We do not provide visa sponsorship for apprentice positions.
